A profile built entirely around your own interests can sound friendly without giving a student much reason to book you.

Cambly currently says it is temporarily limiting new tutor intake to protect the schedules of existing tutors. Its tutor page warns that profile processing may therefore take longer than usual.
Cambly’s application guidance does not promise a decision within a particular number of days. It says that if you do not receive a response, you may apply again after a few months.
So do not build expected Cambly income into your budget while the application is still pending.

Cambly treats tutors as independent contractors, not employees. Its tutor terms state that Cambly does not withhold employment taxes and does not reimburse tutors for the equipment and supplies they need to provide tutoring services.

Keep your payment history and relevant work-expense records from the beginning. It is much easier than trying to reconstruct months of small payments later.
Let the First Few Weeks Tell You Whether Cambly Is Worth It
If you are approved, you still will not know immediately whether Cambly makes sense as a side hustle for you.
Give yourself enough real tutoring time to see what the platform actually looks like from your side.
Track:
- how many hours you make available;
- how many of those hours turn into paid conversation;
- how often students reserve another lesson;
- whether you regularly sit through unpaid gaps;
- how easily the sessions fit around the rest of your schedule.
You may find that regular students make your time much easier to use. Or you may discover that too much of your availability goes unpaid for the rate to feel worthwhile.
You cannot tell that from the $10.20 rate alone.
